Richard Concannon '68

Richard Neil Concannon, an Iowa Xi alumnus from Keokuk, Iowa, graduated in 1968 and joined the Army in 1969. He trained as a helicopter pilot. After training, he deployed to Vietnam where he was assigned to the 101st Airborne. During his second tour in Vietnam, he was killed in a crash while conducting a night medevac of an Army Ranger in monsoon weather near Phu Bai. All seven crew and passengers were killed.

Richard was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Air Medal, and  Purple Heart. Several veterans commemorated Richard for saving their lives during dangerous extraction and medevac missions.
